  • What does the Media Factory board do?

The board oversees the operations of the Media Factory, our cable access channels, community radio station, and a growing list of media-related services. They develop policies for the organization, ensure responsible use of cable access funds, strategize about outreach and development efforts, and infuse community accountability and transparency into all that we do.

Meetings are held once a month with some additional committee work included in between meetings.

How is the Media Factory board different from the VCAM and RETN  boards?

The Media Factory board is the governing body of the now-merged VCAM and RETN organizations, with 2 member-elected positions and 9 appointed. In most ways, the board acts in the same manner with the same goals, just a new name.

The VCAM and RETN boards worked hard for several years bringing these two organizations together. Now as the Media Factory, new board members can help us move into a new phase as a community media center.

    How many seats are open?

One director is elected from our community each year by registered members of the Media Factory to serve a two-year term.

    Who is eligible for candidacy?

In accordance with our by-laws, an eligible candidate is any member of the public who is 18 or older and is an active member of the Media Factory in good standing. Contact the Media Factory at 802-651-9692 or email election@mediafactory.org  if you have questions about your membership.

How do I nominate myself or someone else?

Send an email to election@mediafactory.org  the following:

    1. The name or the person you are nominating (this can be yourself!)
    2. A brief bio of the person you are nominating
    3. The best way to reach you.

The deadline for submitting your name and short bio is Friday, April 30.

    Election Timeline

    • April 30 - Deadline for submitting nominations
    • May 5 - Voting Begins
    • May 21 - Deadline for voting at midnight

    Be sure to vote!

Voting is a benefit and responsibility of all active Media Factory members. Make sure your membership is active by calling the Media Factory at 802-651-9692. All active members will be mailed a ballot with a unique online voting code to vote on our website in May.

Thank you for considering serving on the Media Factory board. We are a better organization with community input and leadership. We are grateful to all our volunteer board members who have gotten us to where we are today.

  • The natural environment, climate challenges, and threats to our ecosystem have been well-documented by our community producers and Vermont environmental organizations. We've put together an extensive collection of these works in recognition of Earth Day, April 22nd. This year's theme is "Restore Our Earth,"  and we hope this collection inspires you to take a new look at the world around you, and our role as stewards of the planet.
