Our 2022 Scott Campitelli Scholarship Winner

The Media Factory is pleased to announce that Winooski High School Senior Khellmar "OJ" Daring has been selected as the 2022 recipient of the Scott Campitelli Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship committee, made up of board members and staff from the Media Factory, as well as Scott’s family, was impressed by OJ’s outstanding leadership skills, deep commitment to community, and academic achievement.

Next year I plan on attending college for film, as creating media is something that I am very passionate about. To me, both media and film are good ways to blend storytelling as well as art together in order to make a piece that is very meaningful.

Applicants are required to provide a video or audio file and OJ’s submission “Brothers” not only wowed the committee, it recently won a national award in the Alliance For Community Media Hometown Video Festival. OJ made the film as part of the Media Factory’s student Film Club.

“OJ has been a pivotal member of the Film Club since its beginning,” said Media Factory Community Engagement Manager Gin Ferrara. “He is a terrific communicator, a great team leader, and he brings a unique perspective to every conversation.”

OJ will attend Champlain College in the fall to study Filmmaking. "As someone who is going to continue their education in media, this scholarship will go a long way in helping me achieve those goals,” said OJ.
