Our 2021 Scott Campitelli Scholarship Winner

Filmmaker Abby Dixson-Boles has been selected as the 2021 recipient of the Scott Campitelli Memorial Scholarship.

The Media Factory is pleased to announce that Lamoille Union High School Senior Abby Dixson-Boles has been selected as the 2021 recipient of the Scott Campitelli Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship committee, made up of board members and staff from the Media Factory, as well as Scott’s family, was impressed by the Montgomery resident’s volunteer efforts, application essay, and film work.

“Abby's film, completed in 48 hours, was extraordinary,” said committee member Katherine Stamper. “Her writing, cinematography, audio, and editing created an evocative piece that just might save the life of a teenager contemplating self-harm.”

Abby and her filmmaking partner won first place in the SkillsUSA Vermont Digital Cinema Production Competition for their project Wider than the River. The film competes at the national level this month and the whole experience has really sparked Abby’s interest in storytelling.

“I believe storytelling is the key to helping people make sense of themselves and the world around them,” she said. “As long as our stories continue to be told, we still have a chance to change the narrative and create a more tolerant world for future generations to come.”

Abby will attend Sarah Lawrence College in the fall to study Film and Media Arts, History, and Writing.

“I am incredibly thankful to the selection committee for choosing me as the recipient of the Scott Campitelli scholarship,” said Abby. “It means so much to me and I look forward to putting the award to good use in the fall.”
